SWOT Analysis
While we have a few weaknesses and challenges we have many strengths and tactics in place to overcome these weaknesses.
There are many Grants available to not-for-profit organizations such as the lottery west and department of education, employment and workplace relations, to help us overcome the high start-up costs involved.
Being located on the university grounds can be seen as a weakness, we believe this is also a strength as it is close to the university, TAFE and other thriving towns close by.
Being a not-for-profit organization means the owners cannot draw profits from the company, but all profits will be put back into the business allowing the childcare centre to expand. On the other hand being a not-for-profit organization we are able to receive tax breaks, are eligible for a wider range of grants, as well as benefiting society by encouraging people to study and entering into the work force.
Sunshine childcare will mitigate and reduce the severity of threats by becoming a pro-active day-care bringing in new regulations before required and employing only qualified employees. The childcare centre will have strict procedures and guidelines which must be followed at all times.
The two main threats to running a childcare care centre is the huge legal obligation to care for the children attending our childcare centre, any obligation not meet can have huge ramifications in the way of legal & Liability issue. While we can minimize this threat through our strict procedures and excellent training and education programs for our employees, we understand we can’t completely eliminate the risk. School holidays is the other, as our target audience is university students we will need to research further into how viable our business will be over the school holidays, and if we will have enough interest to stay open. With summer school and most parents picking up extra work over the holidays as well as the general public we believe we will be able to successfully operate of the school holidays.
There are many opportunities ahead for sunshine childcare centre; we will become an approved childcare centre allowing parents to claim benefits and rebates for their children.
We can offer transportation from school to the childcare centre, our services will be offered to the public such as hospital staff, sports centre clients and people of the surrounding towns, as well as university students.
Sunshine childcare will also plan to accommodate for special needs children. We believe we have many opportunities, which we can use to our benefit to expand the childcare centre and create a successful business.
